Day 1

STEENBERG

Format: Better ball match play

Cotswold Downs

The Peter Matkovich & Hayes designed golf course, consistently named one of the best conditioned courses in South Africa Golf Digest’s Annual Top 100, attracts golfers seeking a premium golfing experience. Known for its hybrid plan, it offers traditionalists the opportunity to ‘bump and run’ (a rare shot in South Africa) in the rough around the greens, and to meet the challenges of strategically placed sand pits and waterways. The par-three, not-so-short 14th hole, features the largest green in Africa at 76 meters in length. Indigenous shrubs guard the green and the mound has been shaped to echo the distinctive mountain range behind. The 18-hole golf course was designed to make full use of natural features and hazards such as the vineyards, pine forest and gentle waterways. Its environmental diversity gives the course its unique character, with a backdrop of Table Mountain.

Day 2

CLOVELLY

Format: Preferred drive, combined match play

There’s every chance you’ll think you’ve taken a wrong turn when visiting Clovelly, even if the signage insists there’s a golf course in the vicinity: a small, suburban road beneath a mountain winds through homes that mask the view of the course. But just as you’re considering turning around, it unfolds before you, one of the most delightful courses the Cape has to offer.

Depending on which nine you start from, you’re veering violently left or right off the tee with two of the more pronounced dog-legs in Cape Town, both holes falling away beneath you from tee boxes just in front of the stately clubhouse. But from there you’re onto a relatively flat course, and one that backtracks on itself, which plays off the wind: from the joy of smashing a drive with a strong breeze at your back, to the more sobering experience of taking three good hits just make the green on a par-four on a particularly windy day, Clovelly offers plenty of highs and lows.

Day 3

WESTLAKE

Format: Match play

Our 18-hole parkland style course was originally designed by our own members. With consultation and advice from professionals, many significant improvements have been made over the years.

Our greens are mainly Poa Annua which requires care but if managed correctly, delivers an excellent putting surface. Fairways, semi-rough, tee boxes and rough are being changed to Kikuyu, as is the standard in South Africa.

The golf course is meticulously managed on a daily basis with the greens and the bunkers being maintained each day. The fairways and rough are mowed regularly and the rough is kept short to enable easy ball location. We at Westlake like to pride ourselves in delivering a true test of golf.

Constant improvements ensure the course is always immaculate and ready to welcome enthusiastic golfers.

We have a driving range which is a short warm-up area of distances no more than 160m. There are two chipping / putting greens surrounded by one bunker to sharpen your short game.
